The American Trucking Associations head lobbyist Mary Phillips announced this week she is leaving ATA to restart her former consulting company, effective Jan. 7.
Phillips, ATA’s senior vice president for legislative affairs, helped ATA secure key provisions in the most recent highway funding act, MAP-21, like the electronic logging device mandate and a Congressional requirement that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration conduct a field study of the current hours-of-service rule.
Phillips also said in her announcement that she helped ATA push the sleep apnea bill through Congress in October.
She did say she would continue to work with ATA as a consultant and will help the association with the next highway bill.
“I am extremely proud of our successes on Capitol Hill,” Phillips said of her three years as ATA’s top lobbyist. “I look forward to continuing to work on ATA’s behalf in a consulting capacity. The coming Congressional debates on policy and funding issues with be pivotal to the future of the trucking industry.”
Bill Graves, ATA’s president and CEO, said the association will miss Phillips, “but we are thrilled that she will still be part of our team in a consulting role.”
