Mack Trucks on Tuesday, July 17, announced that the City of Pomona, Calif., recently purchased 22 natural gas-powered TerraPro Low Entry vehicles, converting its entire fleet to Bulldogs with the alternative-fuel technology. The Mack TerraPro models are expected to be delivered in September.
“The City of Pomona is committed to reducing its environmental footprint,” said Howard Morris, Pomona Solid Waste manager. “We liked what Mack had to offer, especially its excellent reputation and the durability and reliability of its products.”
In creating their new all-Mack natural gas-powered fleet, the City of Pomona ordered 20 TerraPro Compressed Natural Gas side-loaders and two rear-loaders. The City worked with Dan Huntsinger at TEC Equipment Inc. of La Mirada, Calif., to complete the purchase.
“Refuse is an ideal application for natural gas because these trucks return home each day for refueling,” said James Waterbury, Mack Pacific District sales manager. “The natural gas-powered Mack TerraPro refuse vehicles offer an alternative domestically sourced fuel in a durable truck – a win-win for customers and the country when it comes to reducing dependence on foreign oil.”
In addition to the TerraPro Low Entry, Mack offers the TerraPro Cabover model, also used in refuse and recycling applications. The gas versions of these trucks have been engineered to operate on this alternative fuel. The trucks are buuilt at the company’s Macungie Assembly Operations outside of Allentown, Pa.
