Celadon Trucking Services on Thursday, Sept. 27, announced an agreement to purchase a portion of the operating equipment of Columbus, Ohio-based Robinson Transport Inc. to increase its density in Midwest traffic lanes and reinforce its driver pool. Terms were not announced.

“Robinson is a highly respected truckload carrier that has provided a high level of service for its customers over the years, which is demonstrated by the number of service awards it has received,” said Paul Will, president and chief operating officer of Indianapolis-based Celadon Trucking. “Their footprint has tremendous potential to supplement our existing business, expand our network coverage and further accelerate our overall growth plans.”

Rick Robinson, president of Robinson Transport, will join Celadon as vice president of Midwest operations and help continue to service existing Robinson customer accounts. “We believe we can enhance the service to many of Robinson’s former customers through upgraded equipment, advanced technology, additional assets available for dispatch and an industry-leading safety record,” Will said.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to join such a financially strong and highly recognized carrier,” Robinson said. “This opportunity allows me to remain intimately involved with our loyal customer partners as we transition the business I have developed and cultivated over the past 22 years. At the same time, Celadon’s expanded service offering and larger fleet will allow us to better service these customers and create additional opportunities for growth.”
