SkyBitz, a provider of remote asset tracking and information management, announced that COFC Logistics will outfit its entire fleet of 850 intermodal containers with SkyBitz’s Galaxy Series to have visibility into the exact location and status of all its containers at any time.

SkyBitz said it was chosen based on its ability to increase container utilization through shortened turnaround times throughout all points of COFC Logistics’ supply chain network. Complete visibility of assets, building efficiencies and improving customer relations were top priorities, according to the company.

“One of the biggest challenges the intermodal industry faces is obtaining complete visibility for tracking assets without an external power source because assets move on and off various transportation modes,” said Henry Popplewell, senior vice president and general manager, SkyBitz.

COFC Logistics is an independent supplier of intermodal equipment and service. The company specializes in 53-foot intermodal containers moving on the BNSF Railway, serving Atlanta, Chicago, Kansas City, Memphis and St. Louis to and from Los Angeles.

“What attracted us the most to SkyBitz is their state-of-the-art technology solution, the accurate tracking and monitoring via two-way communication and satellite coverage,” said Garry Old, founder and president of COFC Logistics. “Additionally, the ability to add sensor information appealed to us because it allows us to expand our capabilities as our business grows. In our line of work, we don’t control the containers — our customers do, and they use them for a variety of situations. So knowing where our containers are helps us get the most use out of them.”
