CivilianJobs.com announced last week that it had named Crete Carrier Corp. and Ryder System Inc. as two Most Valuable Employers for Military.

The MVE awards are designed to help military-experienced job seekers and veterans find employers to target for their civilian careers.

Nearly 30 percent of Crete’s employees have prior military experience, the carrier says, while Ryder recently surpassed its goal to hire 1,000 military veterans — an initiative it started in November 2011.

About 10 percent of Ryder’s 23,000 employees are veterans, the carrier says.

In other military-related initiatives, Crete employs its five-truck Patriot fleet — five International ProStars designed with military-themed graphics — and chooses drivers who previously served in the military to drive them.

Also, Ryder has a recruiting website targeted directly at military veterans — ryder.com/military — to help vets match their skills with jobs at Ryder.

The CivilianJobs.com Most Valuable Employers award are open to all U.S.-based companies.
