CRST Malone has announced plans to double the current driver referral bonus paid to its professional drivers. The program, which goes into effect immediately and is valid until April 30, means that any CRST Malone independent contractor who refers another driver will receive $1,000 for an independent contractor and $500 for a lease purchase applicant.

“It’s important to give our contractors an opportunity to make extra money,” says Sherri Cook, director of driver development for the Birmingham, Ala.-based company. “Our drivers are the best people to represent the company and promote the benefits of working for CRST Malone. Just spend a few minutes talking to another driver about your experience with CRST Malone and be paid $500 to $1,000.”

Unfortunately, the economy has really hurt the trucking industry, however, I have seen an up-turn in the last month and I hope that will continue. Customers need trucking companies to haul their freight. Many smaller trucking companies have closed their doors so it's up to the bigger companies to take over. I, myself, work for one of those companies and we have never stopped recruiting. You have to keep a certain amount of trucks hauling freight to keep your revenue up. This has worked for us and it was hard last year, no doubt, but we need the trucks and we trust our current contractors to send us the BEST owner/ops out there to lease on with our company. If we have the best contractors, that makes US the best choice for a customer to use to haul their freight. My point is, the referral bonus is a good thing for all involved in my experience. It gives our current contractors a little extra cash and it helps our recruiting department get a 'feel' for the new contractor because our current one talked with them first.

There are other companies that have been paying that for a long time. Thats nothing new.

Things are way out of whack. No jobs. No money. Freight rates generally SUCK. What freight there is often they want you (the truck owner) to pay them for the honor of pulling. The banks in many instances don't even want the trucks back------even if you aren't paying for them.

Yet CRST is trying to get more people in with a bounty on their head.

Am I missing something?????????
