The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance wants a federal agency to reverse a policy change that allows certain safety violations to be overlooked when carriers are rated for safety. CVSA asked the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to rescind an April 19 policy guidance concerning intrastate violations. Following an interpretation by the agency’s legal department, the agency had issued the memo that intrastate violations be excluded from the safety rating process, says Stephen Keppler, CVSA policy and program director.
