Detroit Diesel announced Sept. 18 that its DT12 automated manual transmission is available for Freightliner Cascadia-model trucks equipped with the Detroit DD13 engine.

The combo of the DD13 and DT12 is “ideally suited” for regional, pick-up and delivery applications, says Detroit.

“Because of the type of routes that they run, which often involve a lot of stop and go operations, our regional haul customers are seeking ways to extend fuel economy,” said Brad Williamson, manager, engine and component marketing for Daimler Trucks North America.

Some key features of the DT12 include its “creep mode,” which modulates the clutch to improve low-speed maneaverability, and skip shift, which automatically skips gears to allow the transmission to run through lower gears faster and reach cruising speed quicker.

The transmission comes standard with a 5-year, 750,000-mile warranty and a 3-year, 350,000-mile warranty on the clutch.
