Diesel dips 1.6 cents, stays 17 cents lower year over year

fuel chart 4-8-13For the sixth straight week, the national average price of a gallon of diesel dropped, falling to $3.977 a gallon for the week ended April 8 — a 1.6-cent decline from the previous week and a 17-cent difference from the same week in 2012, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.

Last week marked the first time since the middle of January that the national average price of diesel was below $4 a gallon.

Moreover, average prices in all regions are well below what they were during the same week in 2012, with the West Coast less California region holding at 35 cents below the same week in 2012 and prices on the East Coast at 18 cents lower than the comparable week in 2012.

The Gulf Coast had the week’s lowest regional price, $3.888 a gallon, and California had the highest price, $4.196. Prices dropped in all regions except the West Coast and the West Coast less California subregion, which saw a one-tenth of a cent increase and seven-tenths of a cent increase, respectively.

The Gulf Coast region had the largest decrease, 2.7 cents.
