The national average retail diesel price fell by 8.6 cents to $4.03 during the week ended Oct. 29, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. That’s the largest one-week decrease in the price of diesel since the week ended Dec. 15, 2008. The latest weekly price is 13.8 cents above the same week last year.
The average diesel price fell in all regions, led by drops of 11.7 cents in both California and the Midwest. Even with the sharp drop the price of diesel in California, the price there remains the nation’s highest on average at $4.268 a gallon. The least expensive fuel on average was in Gulf Coast region, where the price fell 5.4 cents to $3.945 a gallon. Diesel is now under $4 a gallon in three regions — the Gulf Coast, the Midwest and the Lower Atlantic
