Diesel price drops 1.3 cents to $3.896

The national retail price for on-highway diesel declined for the second straight week, falling 1.3 cents to $3.896 a gallon during the week ended Aug. 12, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration. Diesel prices nationwide are 6.9 cents lower than the same week last year. It’s the first time since late May that the national average price was lower year over year.

Average prices fell in all regions, led by a 1.7-cent drop in the Gulf Coast region, which also is home to the nation’s lowest diesel prices on average at $3.824 a gallon. California remains the region with the highest diesel price on average at $4.128 a gallon.
