Another increase in diesel prices during the week ending Jan. 2 has diesel prices at their highest mark since mid-August 2015.
The nationwide average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel was $2.586 in the week, a 4.6-cent jump from last week’s numbers from the Department of Energy.
Diesel prices increased in all regions, with the most significant jump coming in the Central Atlantic region, where prices rose 8.9 cents.
The nation’s most expensive diesel can be found in California at $2.921 per gallon, followed by the Central Atlantic region at $2.776 per gallon.
The cheapest fuel can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.451 per gallon, followed by the Lower Atlantic region at $2.514 per gallon.
Prices in other regions, according to the DOE, are:
- New England – $2.665
- Midwest – $2.54
- Rocky Mountain – $2.535
- West Coast less California – $2.757
ProMiles’ numbers during the same week also show diesel prices increasing by 3.4 cents to $2.541 per gallon nationwide.
According to ProMiles’ Fuel Surcharge Index, the most expensive diesel can be found in California at $2.91 per gallon, and the cheapest can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.453 per gallon.
