DOT issues updated Ebola hauling guidelines

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued Oct. 30 a Safety Advisory saying that Ebola contaminated materials must be packaged in compliance Category A infectious substances hazmat regulations.

The notice makes points similar to the guidance issued earlier this month.

If materials have been appropriately “incinerated, autoclaved, or otherwise inactivated,” PHMSA said, they “are not considered Category A infectious substances and are not subject to the requirements of the” hazardous material regulations.
