Click here or the photo above to visit the registry website and to locate a certified examiner.Drivers must begin using doctors from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners May 21, per an update Feb. 12 from Larry Minor, the agency’s Associate Administrator for Policy.
A few weeks ago, when he last heard numbers, Minor said the registry had more than 6,000 certified examiners and another 1,600 had completed training but haven’t yet been tested for admission to the registry.
Minor said the agency hopes to have more than 40,000 examiners in the registry once fully implemented.
As Mark Davison of the American Moving and Storage Association pointed out, it would take those 6,000 examiners doing 300 examinations each year to cover all drivers.
The FMCSA’s rule regarding the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners requires drivers to receive medical certification from an examiner on the list.
