FPInnovations’ Performance Innovation Transport (PIT) group, a not-for-profit engineering and research group for the North American trucking industry, announced a new certification program that fleets can use to quickly and accurately identify the fuel efficiency value of a technology. The new program, called PIT Power, was announced at the first annual Emerging Technologies Conference.

Trajkovski, vice president of fleet maintenance at Bison Transport inc, brought together developers, suppliers and fleet owners from across North America and Europe.

“With a long history of research activities in the forest industry’s transport sector, FPInnovations is proud to be working with the multi-national transport fleets in their efforts to improve fuel efficiency”, stated Pierre Lapointe, president and CEO of FPInnovations. “PIT Power is only one of many steps we are taking to lead the global sector towards an intelligent transport system.”

“We developed PIT Power based on our internationally recognized Energotest, which is the industry’s most accurate, independent and indisputable evaluation process of the return on investment fleets can expect from green technologies,” said Yves Provencher, director of PIT. “PIT Power uses the stringent testing protocols to reliably rank fuel efficiency. Suppliers can take advantage of this new certification process to demonstrate the real value of their technologies. Fleets will appreciate that investing in technologies certified PIT Power will benefit their operations. PIT Power is a clearly a win-win approach.”

PIT Power provides suppliers who submit technologies for evaluation with the credibility associated with an exact, indisputable fuel economy ranking. The ratings start at 2, which indicates a 2 percent fuel savings, and have no upper limit. A supplier that receives a PIT Power rating will be able to demonstrate its achievement by posting the PIT Power logo on its technology. Fleets can look for technologies displaying PIT Power ratings as proof of performance.

“We use only proven evaluation procedures to provide the commercial vehicle industry with the information it needs to make sound equipment choices and capital investments,” Provencher stated. “With PIT Power we will provide independent verification of a technology’s fuel economy performance so fleet managers can adopt the proven, cost efficient solutions best suited to their fleet’s needs.”
