Express-1, a division of Express-1 Expedited Solutions Inc., has received a Gold award by Great West Casualty Co. as part of the 2010 National Safety Awards Program that recognizes carriers in similar operations (truckload and less-than-truckload) with awards based on their yearend preventable accident results.

“We are accepting this award on behalf of our drivers,” says Larry Larson, vice president of safety for Buchanan, Mich.-based Express-1. “We establish the processes and procedures, but they are the ones to carry out the plan day in and day out.”

Great West Casualty Co. is a provider of property and casualty insurance for the trucking industry. This past year, the program drew more than 800 participants from across the country.

“I am very proud that our efforts in safety have been recognized by the leading provider of casualty insurance in the trucking industry,” says Jeff Curry, Express-1 president. “We measure our preventable accidents and have consistently been well below our own tough standards. Our trucks covered approximately 32 million miles in 2010, so maintaining a gold standard safety rating is a great accomplishment.”
