A former Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration official in New York state was sentenced in federal court to 18 months in prison for accepting bribes from trucking companies.

James H. Wood, 45, of Delevan, N.Y., former supervisor of FMCSA’s Buffalo office, pleaded guilty in June to taking bribes from third parties working for Canadian trucking companies.

In exchange, Wood postponed safety audits, provided lists of Canadian companies scheduled for FMCSA inspections and information to be covered in inspections, and initiated favorable audits for those carriers and unfriendly audits for their competitors, according to court documents.

The article does not state how much the fine is or was. It should be 10 times the amount he received in bribes or 4 times his yearly salary.

This is an example of just who do you trust now? Is the audit legal in all respects or is it a fixed or "special" audit? Same could be said for road side inspections too.
There are far too many horror stories of bogus tickets issued to truckers by less than honest leos for it to not have some truth .Are you listening AZ?
Such as issuing a ticket to a team that had orange placards on the trailer for smoking too near the load when they did not in his presence. He said he smelled the smoke on them. BOGUS . Do the less than scrupulous cops now just write a ticket based on what THEY think the law should read?
