Future of trucking equipment, technology to be key topic of discussion at CV-Outlook

How will looming technologies — such as truck platooning — change the industry? A CV-Outlook panel offers a look at how they will impact fleets, drivers, the trucking industry as a whole and U.S. freight flow.

How will environmental, safety and infrastructure concerns change trucking equipment and technology over the next decades? That’s the subject of the opening panel discussion at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Outlook, with advancements such as autonomous trucks, platooning and autonomous repairs taking center stage.

CV-Outlook will be held at the Dallas Convention Center Aug. 26-27 in conjunction with the Great American Trucking Show, with the theme of Trucking’s Future Now. All sessions and speakers will center on offering a look at what the trucking industry will look like in the years to come.

The equipment and technology panel will discuss how trucking equipment and tech will evolve over the next decade to meet changing environmental, safety and infrastructure concerns, including the advent of autonomous trucks, platooning and self-repairing machines.

Equipment and technology experts sharing their insights include Derek Rotz, chief engineer for the Freightliner SuperTruck project; Bill Kahn, principle engineer for Peterbilt Motors; Joshua Switkes, CEO of Peloton Technology; and Sandeep Kar with Frost & Sullivan. Paul Menig, CEO of Tech I-M, will moderate. The panel will take place Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m.

Futurist Michio Kaku will give CV-Outlook’s keynote address on Wednesday, Aug. 26. Kaku is one of the most highly regarded futurists in the world, internationally recognized for trying to complete Einstein’s unified field theory and his predictions of trends affecting business, commerce and finance.

Panelists include Derek Rotz, the chief engineer of Freightliner’s SuperTruck project; Bill Kahn, principal engineer for Peterbilt Motors; and Josh Switkes, CEO of Peloton Technology. The panel will be moderated by Paul Menig, CEO of Tech-I-M.

The conference will also feature speeches and panel discussions on changing infrastructure, freight patterns and the driver and technician labor market.
