Indicators: Flatbed rates dip, reefer and van climb

image-58Per-mile rates on the spot market mostly showed positive movement in November, according to monthly transactional data from Truckstop.com. Rates for van and reefer gained several cents in the month, while flatbed rates tumbled a few cents, likely due to seasonality of the flatbed segment.

Market conditions continue to keep rates cheaper than seen in recent years.

Paid ratest — verified rate averages paid to carriers by brokers and shippers — rose 5 cents on average for reefer loads, moving to $2.02 a mile in November. Compared to the same month in 2015, reefer rates were down 13 cents a mile. Compared to November 2014, reefer rates were down 55 cents a mile:

Van rates posted a 2-cent gain in November from October, rising to $1.91 a mile. Rates in the segment were down 4 cents from November 2015 and 37 cents from November 2014:
