Inilex, a provider of telemetry systems for vehicles, has introduced InilexGPS Fleet. The product is designed to help businesses with small to mid-size fleets (15 to 150 vehicles) improve efficiency and performance.

Inilex has traditionally focused on the automotive industry. Its SkyLink tracking product is available at auto dealerships nationwide. It is mainly used to recover stolen vehicles. Dealers install the system covertly on behalf of their customers.

During the past eight months, the company turned its attention towards the fleet market, says Thomas Gordy, executive vice president.

The company designed its new Fleet system to bring large-business technology in a simplified form. It consists of a small, durable device that can be installed quickly on any vehicle or piece of equipment, from car to bus to tractor to container. Management and reporting is performed through a Web-based interface.

A self-contained unit connects only to the vehicle’s power supply. InilexGPS Fleet does not connect to a vehicle’s canbus, but it does capture engine idling and mileage information by using algorithms. The system can detect if the ignition is on and not moving. In addition to capturing idling time, it sends exception alerts if idle time exceeds standards. Vehicle mileages are recorded using GPS data. The system can send alerts based on fleets’ preventive maintenance (PM) intervals. It also shows weekly mileage summary reports in the Web interface, Gordy says.

The InilexGPS FLEET system also provides geofencing features, such as zone alerts, and reports about vehicle location, speeds and other up-to-the-minute data that assists with business decisions.

“We saw a gap in the marketplace where the needs of smaller fleets were largely underserved, yet their need for efficiency is greater when you consider most operate within a tighter margin than large enterprises,” said Michael Maledon, CEO of Inilex. “We already had the core technologies in place to serve this market, and we’re doing so with a system that is simple to use and delivers hard dollar value.”

Gordy says InilexGPS Fleet is priced very aggressively and is now available directly through Inilex, as well as through select auto dealerships nationwide. Options include the standard installed model, as well as a battery-powered model.
