James Burg Trucking, a heavy load carrier operating multiple-axle-combination flatbed trailers, says it now specs all new trailers with the Meritor Tire Inflation System from PSI with ThermAlert technology, along with Michelin X-One tires.
“Once we made the decision to put wide-based single tires on our equipment, we knew we needed the capability of maintaining constant air pressure to those tires to get the most benefit,” says James Burg, president of the Warren, Mich.-based company. “We chose the Meritor Tire Inflation System because we believe it’s the simplest, most reliable product. We’ve been able to increase fuel economy and have fewer road repairs.”
James Burg Trucking is a SmartWay partner, and both MTIS and Michelin X-One tires are recommended by SmartWay as technologies that can reduce the fuel consumption of commercial vehicles. The fleet says it also includes the ThermAlert technology as part of his MTIS specification because of its ability to sense and warn drivers of excessive heat buildup in the wheel end that ultimately could result in wheel loss or catastrophic trailer fires.
