Landstar sees increased revenue in 3Q

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Landstar Systems says it earned a net income of $33.1 million in the third quarter of this year, up from the $30.2 million it made in the third quarter of 2011, bringing its diluted earnings per share to an 11 percent increase — 71 cents per share, up from 64 cents per share in the same quarter last year. 

Landstar’s total revenue in the quarter was $717.2 million, up from $684 million last year. Truck transportation revenue and truck brokerage accounted for 93 percent ($625.8 million) of that total. 

Landstar Chairman Henry Gerkens says he expects the earnings per diluted share to be between 63 and 68 cents per share in the fourth quarter.
