Fitzgerald Glider Kits’ Byrdstown, Tenn., factory.The U.S. House late Tuesday passed an amendment by voice vote that would prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from using funds for one year to finalize, implement, administer or enforce proposed restrictions on the manufacture and sale of glider kits and trucks built from them.
This is the second go-round for Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) and her amendment, which was offered as part of the debate on H.R. 5538, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2017.
Last year Black submitted an identical amendment, and it was passed during House debate of the annual Interior appropriations bill but failed to make it into the final spending package. Passage of the amendment in the House, which also has the support of independent retailers of glider kits, is the first step to inclusion in a final appropriations bill for 2017.
A final EPA/DOT rule is expected to be issued this summer.
