When it comes to fleet maintenance, it can help to get different perspectives on an issue before deciding how to handle it.

Because of this, Master Fleet launched The Huddle earlier this year as an online meeting place for fleet managers, VPs of maintenance, parts room managers and more. An article is posted each week dealing with a topic related to fleet maintenance, and visitors to the site can comment, providing their thoughts and ideas relating to that week’s topic.

Steve Zerphey, general manager of consulting services for Master Fleet, has been writing and posting articles for Master Fleet since February when The Huddle went live.

“We cover topics ranging from designing tire programs to calculating shop labor rates and more,” Zerphey said. “We want to post different topics from within the industry from a fleet maintenance perspective.”

Zerphey added that there have also been articles written by other people involved in the industry, and he hopes that interaction with the site continues to build.

“We have guest articles in addition to what we write on our own,” he said. “We want to get our members involved any way we can.”

Zerphey said the idea behind The Huddle came from a roundtable group of VPs of maintenance that formed about eight years ago.

“A question would come up, and I would distribute it to the members of the group who would then weigh in on new innovations or tools,” he said. “Everybody in the group had exposure to other forums like the Huddle and felt there was a need for it in this industry.”

With a theme of “For the members, by the members,” The Huddle is meant to be run by the members of the site. The articles are free to view, and a quick and free signup process on the site will allow users to comment on the articles as well.

Zerphey said Master Fleet is still in the early stages of finding out what the users of the site want to see and what their needs are, and he said there is a possibility of adding more than one article a week in the future if there’s a need for it.
