PeopleNet announced it has updated the 34-hour reset rule in its eDriver logs application to ensure full compliance to driver Hours of Service regulations. The updates were made on Dec. 22, six days after President Obama signed an appropriations bill containing an amendment to suspend enforcement of the 34-hour reset rule enacted in July, 2013.
PeopleNet’s eDriver logs application is installed in more than 182,000 trucks. Starting on December 22, the application automatically recalculated drivers’ last cycle (based on the last 7 or 8 days) and applied the new requirements for a valid 34-hour restart.
Any “invalid” violations that occurred as a result of drivers using the “new” rule between Dec. 16 and Dec. 21, before the company updated its application, are automatically cleared from the online PeopleNet Fleet Manager and from its driver displays when drivers login. The driver displays now provide the correct cycle hours available, the company says.
