Approximately 300 International trucks are being recalled by Navistar because of a problem in which a battery cover latch could short out the battery.

Navistar says the affected vehicles have a metallic battery cover that could unlatch and contact the battery’s jump start stud, causing an electrical short to ground if the jump start stud isn’t covered. If this situation were to happen, the risk of a fire increases, Navistar says.

The following International models are included in the recall:

  • 2017 International 9900i manufactured between June 20 and Dec. 8, 2016
  • 2017 International LoneStar manufactured between July 12 and Dec. 6, 2016
  • 2017 International ProStar manufactured between June 17 and Oct. 28, 2016
  • 2017 International TranStar manufactured between June 13 and Oct. 21, 2016

The recall is expected to begin Feb. 17. Navistar will notify owners of the affected trucks, and dealers will install a latch stop to prevent the latch from rotating to the unlatched position.
