On Jan. 5, the American Trucking Associations announced its hours-of-service campaign (http://safedriverhours.com/) to encourage industry and driver opposition to the administration’s proposed changes to driver hours of service regulations.
Qualcomm, in response to requests from a number of its customers, has enabled two options for fleets to capture and submit driver feedback to ATA regarding the proposed changes to the regulations by leveraging the capabilities of its mobile information and computing platforms (OmniTRACS, MCP100, MCP110, and MCP200).
Option 1: Fleets using MCP200 units can add the “safedriverhours” URL to their “white list” of approved driver websites. On the ATA-managed site, drivers can insert their comments into a formatted letter and submit them electronically and directly to the FMCSA.
Option 2 (a): Qualcomm has provided the format for a forward and associated return macro that fleets can set up and use to request and collect driver responses. Fleets can collect responses from their drivers and submit them directly to ATA. The response address is provided in the PDF linked here.
Option 2 (b): Fleets can submit a data sharing agreement to request a copy of driver responses (sent via return macros) to be copied directly to ATA. ATA will collect and forward the driver responses they receive by February 28, 2011 to the FMCSA. For a PDF of more details on how to set up this option, click here
Qualcomm says that normal charges will apply for messaging and macro setup, but normal data sharing charges will be waived for those wishing to use this option.
