Qualcomm announced that in just less than 2 1/2 years, its Mobile Computing Platform (MCP) has reached 33,000 active units, making it one of the most widely adopted in-cab platforms in the transportation and logistics industry. Nearly 300 carriers are using the Qualcomm MCP, the company says.
With both satellite and terrestrial options, the Qualcomm MCP first was available commercially in October 2006 when it was launched as the OmniVision Mobile Computing Platform. Now called the Qualcomm MCP, the platform delivers the set of OmniVision Transportation Services. The company says the platform has enhanced computing capacity; in-cab color touchscreen display; and text-to-speech capability.
Qualcomm says the MCP reached the 33,000-unit milestone twice as fast as its OmniTracs mobile computing system, which reached 33,000 on-air units in five years and now has more than 220,000 units on air.
“The adoption rate of the MCP has exceeded our expectations and demonstrates the value our customers place in the platform and OmniVision Transportation Services,” says Rick Roesler, vice president of marketing and product management at Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “We are thrilled to have reached this important milestone and are committed to driving innovation throughout the industry.”
The Qualcomm MCP helps fleets improve asset management, on-time delivery, safety, operational performance and driver satisfaction, the company says.
