Spot market rates in all three major TL segments jumped in June

image (28)Rates in all three major truckload segments saw big gains in June, according to monthly per-mile spot market rate data from Truckstop.com, though per-mile spot market rates remain well below 2014 and 2015 averages.

Van rates saw the largest gains, climbing 14 cents a mile on average nationwide, according to Truckstop.com’s data. Paid rates in the segment (verified rates paid by brokers to carriers) averaged $1.97 in June, marking van’s highest per-mile rate average this year. Rates in the segment were still down 24 cents from the same month last year:

Reefer rates grew 11 cents in the month, per Truckstop.com, climbing to $2.19 a mile — their highest point so far in 2016. Compared to June 2015, reefer rates were down 19 cents:

Lastly, flatbed rates jumped 4 cents to $2.12 a mile, another 2016 high mark. Year over year, however, flatbed rates are down 20 cents:
