Military-CDLThe Truckload Carriers Association announced this week it has committed the trucking industry to hiring 50,000 veterans in the next four years.

The program, dubbed the Operation Heroes to Highways, is being done via partnership with Hiring Our Heroes and FASTPort.

TCA says the commitment will help fill much sought-after jobs in the trucking industry, such as drivers and technicians, along with helping aid the country’s hundreds of thousands of unemployed military veterans.

“Our industry is niquely positioned to support former military service personnel with the highest number of best-paying, entry-level jobs of any industry,” TCA President Brad Bentley wrote to TCA member carriers. “There are numerous military skill sets that translate well into trucking careers, so fleets and associate members should also consider providing opportunities for recruiters, dispatchers and frontline supervisors.”

Carriers can participate by dedicating a minimum number of future hires to veterans and making a pledge to that number in the next 30 days.

Carriers who participate will be recognized on the Heroes to Highways online Wall of Valor. Participant carriers will also receive commemorative Challenge Coins from Heroes to Highways.
