TMW Systems acquires Maddocks Systems

Major trucking software developer TMW Systems announced today, Sept. 6, that it has acquired major competitor Maddocks Systems, which has customers in the United States and is the largest trucking software vendor in the Canadian market. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

TMW Systems said it will continue to develop, evolve and support both companies’ product offerings, including the TMWSuite Windows-based solution, TL2000 for the IBM iSeries and Maddocks TruckMate for Windows. The combined resources and technologies will allow for new features and modules – including imaging, mobile communications, business activity monitoring and driver portals – to both companies’ customers within a few months, said Bob Maddocks, president and chief executive officer of Maddocks Systems.

“Essentially, we are committed to supporting any customer of TMWSuite, TL2000 or TruckMate, provided they continuously subscribe to our support and maintenance offering – as long as you’re in the trucking business, we’ll be there,” said TMW Systems President David Wangler.

Wangler will continue to lead the newly expanded TMW Systems. Maddocks is taking on a strategic role for TMW Systems as senior vice president of business development, identifying new business opportunities and partnerships.

“This is our first acquisition since TMW was purchased by Wachovia Capital Partners and Peppertree Capital Management in 2005 and fits very well with our global strategy of expanding our business through continued organic growth, as well as investing in superior businesses with complementary technology and robust business solutions,” Wangler said.

The merger with Maddocks Systems gives TMW Systems 1,000 customers managing 175,000 trucks worldwide and revenues in excess of $40 million, the company said, adding that the two companies together “actively serve” more of North America’s largest 100 carriers than any other software provider. TMW will employ 250 people throughout North America.

Randall Burrell, who had served as Maddocks Systems chief operating officer, has been appointed general manager of TMW Canada. All Maddocks Systems management and staff have become employees of TMW Systems.
