Lakeland, Fla.-based Sunco Carriers, doing business as Watkins Refrigerated (No. 250 on the CCJ Top 250), has been acquired by private equity firm KJM Capital, the firm announced Tuesday. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Watkins is a family-owned refrigerated carrier founded in the mid-1930s that operates primarily in the Southeast. The company operates more than 200 tractors and 400 reefer trailers.

The American Trucking Associations recently recognized Watkins with a third-place award for safety out of truckload carriers in the 20 to 50 million mile category, KJM says.
