Trucking puts Sir Paul over the top

On his own, ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney is only the second-richest musician in the U.K. But throw in the trucking-generated assets of his wife Nancy Shevell, and the couple edges out Cats composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

London’s Sunday Times said that its annual Rich List of U.K. music performers and writers, to be published April 21, will show that McCartney and Shevell together are worth 680 million pounds, or a bit more than $1 billion. Webber, who also composed such hits as Phantom of the Opera, Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar, reportedly is worth about $954 million. According to at least one report, Shevell’s own worth is about $230 million.

Shevell, who married McCartney in October 2011, is a member of the Shevell family that owns The Shevell Group, a holding company of trucking assets anchored by NEMF (formerly known as New England Motor Freight). With $461.5 million in annual revenue and more than 1,500 trucks, the Elizabeth, N.J.-based company ranked No. 65 in last year’s CCJ Top 250. Nancy Shevell has, in the past, held senior management positions at the company.
