Omnitracs, a provider of fleet management applications, released a new video detailing what fleets need to know about the upcoming Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate, expected to be published in September 2015.

The video dissects each one of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FSMCA) mandate goals to explain the ruling’s objectives and how it will impact business operations.

“From technical specifications to what constitutes a compliant device and how such devices work, there are still a lot of questions swirling around in regards to the anticipated ELD mandate,” said Tom Cuthbertson, vice president of regulatory compliance at Omnitracs. “With the FSMCA sharing its top goals for the regulation, we now have a sense of what to anticipate.”

The video uses a creative “whiteboard” illustration to explain the FSMCA’s seven top goals, which are:

  1. Security
  2. Transmission to authorized enforcement officials
  3. Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (SNPRM)
  4. Driver harassment and privacy consideration
  5. Tamper resistance
  6. Technology evolution capability
  7. Self-certification
