Volvo Trucks announced that it has placed its 25,000th truck in service with its Remote Diagnostics tool in less than a year and a half since the feature was first introduced. Averitt Express took delivery of the truck in early March and now has 700 Remote Diagnostics-equipped power units in its fleet. Remote Diagnostics is intended to maximize vehicle uptime by providing proactive diagnostic and repair planning assistance with detailed analysis of critical diagnostic trouble codes before the truck enters a fleet maintenance shop or dealer service facility.
The remote communication platform has been a standard feature on all Volvo-powered VNM and VNL models since mid-2012. Last year, Volvo Trucks expanded Remote Diagnostics to include Volvo-powered Volvo VHD and VAH vocational models, making it a standard feature across Volvo’s entire North American product line.
For fleets, Volvo Trucks says Remote Diagnostics helps streamline shop maintenance programs and keep trucks in service. “Master technicians are hard to come by. When we can help offload some of the initial diagnostic burden and allow junior technicians to handle the repair orders, it helps make shops more productive,” says Conal Deedy, Volvo Trucks’ product marketing manager, electronics and communications.
According to Deedy, customers have seen a 70 percent reduction in diagnostic time and 20 percent reduction in repair time since Remote Diagnostics first launched.
