West Chester Permit, a full service permitting company headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, announced it has developed an oversize and overweight permitting process for drivers with smart phones.

Truck drivers often experience downtime and pay fees to obtain oversize and overweight permits through fax services at truck stops.

“By utilizing a resource that many truck drivers already have, we intend to provide a low cost solution to this problem,” says Scott Boehm, vice president of sales for West Chester Permit.

Permits can be easily obtained using smartphones equipped with Internet service and West Chester Permit’s online ordering system.  The smartphone and tablet friendly system enables truck drivers to order permits and check the status of their orders anywhere they have Internet access, he says.

Issued permits are automatically emailed to customers which then can be printed via Bluetooth to a mobile printer directly from their smartphone or tablet.

Currently Android, Blackberry and Windows phones are recommended due to Bluetooth printer capability.   Technology is constantly changing and solutions are on the horizon for Apple based products, he said.

“Drivers of oversize and overweight loads have their work cut out for them to ensure freight makes it to its destination safely.  Loads have to be properly secured.  Signage and lights need to be in place.  Escorts need to be arranged.  One of the most important is tasks is getting paperwork in place.  We are proud to offer an in cab permitting solution to our customers and hope that we can help drivers invest more time behind the wheel and less time waiting for permits,” Boehm said.
