Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems will begin production of its new ADB 225 air disc brake in the fourth quarter of this year.
The company says the brake will be 30 pounds lighter per wheel end versus comparable models in the European market. Bendix was able to squeeze the weight out of ADB by developing an anti-compounding air system.
The ADB 225 features a streamlined design and a more efficient force multiplier. It reportedly works well in combination with drum brakes and ABS. The ADB 225 is designed for 22.5-inch wheels.
Bendix also announced that its new air dryer, the AD-IS, will be standard on new Peterbilt trucks. The AD-IS, released this year, is an integrated unit that combines a number of components in a modular design, thus simplifying installation and maintenance while reducing weight, the company says.
The company also launched a new air-filtering device, the PuraGuard DL, that captures up to 70 percent of the oil and carbon in a vehicle’s air system before it reaches the air dryer. The system, installed between the air compressor and the air dryer, uses a microglass fiber filter.
