Last month, Greensboro, N.C.-based Epes Carriers merged its two asset-based trucking subsidiaries, Epes Transport System and Texas Star Express. The combined company will be called Epes Transport System, with headquarters remaining in Greensboro.

Rockwall, Texas-based Texas Star will become the company’s Southwestern division of Epes Transport, operating a major terminal in Rockwall, with recruiting, sales, safety, operations and maintenance support staff. The combined company will have about 1,500 employees and consist of 1,150 power units and 4,000 trailers providing service to the Eastern two-thirds of the United States.

“The merger of our two operating companies will now allow us to offer many more services and lanes to our customer base and also give our driving force additional opportunities for growth as well,” said Britt Colley, president of Epes. “The initial response from our customers has been very positive. It is a very exciting time for our employees and customers and will help position us for the future.”
