Crime report: Tractor-trailer stolen, recovered in S.C., DOT drug screener charged

Action in two trucking-related crimes has recently been reported by the Department of Transportation’s Office of Inspector General and SensiGuard, the cargo theft recording firm formerly known as FreightWatch.

DOT-approved drug screener in Georgia charged for conducting improper screenings

On May 18, a Georgia DOT-approved drug and alcohol screener was charged with falsification of records with intent to impede proper administration of DOT for allegedly not conducting proper DOT-required drug testing.

Jo Carol White was investigated after the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration received information that she was allegedly not conducting drug tests and medical exams on CDL applicants as required by the DOT. The investigation further revealed that White falsified medical exam reports, medical examiner’s certificates and other paperwork.

The OIG says White signed a plea agreement that was submitted to the court, and a sentencing date and hearing are forthcoming.

Tractor-trailer stolen, recovered in South Carolina

On Saturday, June 24, a driver transporting a load of electronics reported his truck and trailer had been stolen during his 30-minute break at a truck stop in Reevesville, S.C.

According to SensiGuard, the driver reported being in the truck stop for approximately five minutes and returned to see his truck stolen. In a coordinated response between the Lexington County Police, South Carolina State Police and the SensiGuard Emergency Response Team, the truck and shipment were recovered fully intact in West Columbia, S.C., less than two hours after the theft.
