dt12_ptoDetroit Diesel Corporation has added an optional power take-off (PTO) option for its DT12 automated manual transmission (AMT).

Kelly Gedert, manager of Detroit Powertrain and component marketing, says the PTO allows the company us to offer bulk haul customers a lighter AMT option.

“The majority of these customers are more weight sensitive,”Gedert says, “which helps make the Detroit DT12 more attractive than other competitor automated manual transmissions.”

Gedert says the PTO is optimized for for stationary operation on pavement only with targeted applications including liquid trailers, dry goods, wet goods and live bottom trailers.

Both the Direct Drive and Over Drive DT12 transmissions are available for order with a proprietary rear-mounted PTO on original Freightliner Cascadia models – with or without the Evolution aerodynamic package – and Western Star 5700XE models.

This option is scheduled to be available for the new Freightliner Cascadia on January 1, 2018.

This year, Detroit’s DT12 has been spec’d on approximately 65 percent of all ordered Cascadia and approximately 85 percent of the 5700XE.
