Diesel fuel prices dropped a penny during the week ending Aug. 20, bringing the nation’s average to $3.207 per gallon, according to the latest numbers from the Department of Energy.
The slight decrease drops prices to their lowest point since early May, when a gallon of on-highway diesel in the U.S. was $3.171 during the week ending May 7.
During the most recent week, prices dropped in all regions with the most significant decrease being seen in the Lower Atlantic region, where prices dropped by 1.5 cents.
The nation’s most expensive diesel is in California at $3.929 per gallon, followed by the West Coast less California region at $3.423 per gallon.
The cheapest diesel can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.981 per gallon, followed by the Lower Atlantic at $3.076 per gallon.
Prices in other regions, according to the DOE, are:
- New England – $3.261
- Central Atlantic – $3.38
- Midwest – $3.129
- Rocky Mountain – $3.349
