Eaton Cummins is recalling more than 1,300 transmissions that could allow an engine to be cranked while in gear.The 2017-formed joint venture between Cummins and Eaton, dubbed Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies, is recalling more than 1,300 transmissions that may allow the engine to crank while the shifter is not in neutral, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents.
Transmissions being recalled include Endurant transmissions with part numbers EEO-17F112C, EEO-16F112C and EEO-18F112C and Paccar transmissions with part numbers PO-14F112C, PO-15F112C, PO-16F112C, PO-17F112C and PO-18F112C. The recall includes approximately 1,338 transmissions.
Because the engines can be cranked while the transmissions are not in neutral, they do not comply with federal vehicle safety standards.
Eaton Cummins will notify the affected vehicle manufacturers, who will then conduct recalls of their trucks to install updated transmission control module software. A notification schedule has not yet been determined by Eaton Cummins.
