Espar Heater Systems said it had received certification under the California Air Resource Board’s new idle reduction rules for three of its fuel-operated heating systems for trucks and buses.
Effective Jan. 1, 2008, all fuel-operated bunk heaters and engine pre-heaters on diesel-fueled commercial motor vehicles with GVW of more than 10,000 lbs. must meet CARB’s ULEV II (ultra-low emission vehicle) idling emissions reduction requirements. As of that date, trucks will not be allowed to idle for more than 5 minutes — even for federally mandated rest.
Espar’s three approved heaters are the Airtronic D2 (small bunk heater), Airtronic D4 (large bunk heater) and Hydronic 5 (engine pre-heater). Espar will now ship all heaters with stickers that indicate they are now CARB compliant.
