Daimler Trucks North America is recalling approximately 138 Freightliner Cascadia trucks due to a potential steering issue, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents.

The company says some model year 2017-2018 Cascadias may have an upper steering pinch bolt that isn’t properly tightened, which could result in the mechanical disconnection of the steering wheel and the front wheels. The affected trucks were manufactured between Aug. 23, 2016, and July 7, 2017.

Daimler says it decided to initiate the recall because, due to a repair process during manufacture of the trucks, the company was unsure if the correct torque procedure was followed for reinstallation of the upper pinch bolt.

Daimler will begin notifying owners on Dec. 4, and dealers will check to make sure the bolts are properly tightened, free of charge.
