DAT North American Freight IndexSpot truckload freight activity in June rallied to a record-high for available loads, according to the DAT North American Freight Index.

Load availability climbed 24 percent in June from May, according to the DAT Index, and was up 57 percent from last June.

Van load availability jumped 35 percent from May and 68 percent from June 2016. Reefer made similar gains — up 23 percent from May and 66 percent from the same month last year.

Flatbed freight availability rose 14 percent from May and 66 percent from June 2016.

Rates, too, followed suit in June, according to DAT’s MArk Montague, a pricing analyst. “Spot rates have remained strong for all three equipment types even though the surcharge portion has been shrinking compared to previous years,” he says.
