Mack Trucks on Thursday, May 24, announced that Jacobson Companies has purchased 259 Mack Pinnacle on-highway commercial vehicles. The new tractors – of which 139 are daycabs and 120 are sleepers – recently were delivered to Jacobson locations throughout the United States.

Jacobson – a third-party logistics service provider based in Des Moines, Iowa – says it chose Mack because of the fuel economy offered by the Pinnacle model, as well as the safe and comfortable in-cab driver environment.

“We chose Mack because they developed a truck that met our needs and would retain its value in the market,” says Scott Temple, president of Jacobson Transportation Logistics Services. “These new trucks will replace older model trucks and refresh our fleet with new technology and improved fuel efficiency. Driver safety and retention remain a high priority for Jacobson, and the Mack Pinnacle models are equipped with features that promote driver safety and comfort.”

The Pinnacle model’s fuel-saving aerodynamic design includes a sloped hood, which helps maximize visibility and safety. The ergonomic wraparound dash is designed to place all switches and controls within driver reach. The Jacobson units are equipped with Mack ClearTech MP8 445-horsepower engines designed to optimize fuel efficiency while providing the power and performance required for on-highway applications.

“Today, everyone is looking to lower fuel and maintenance costs,” says David Barletta, Mack central region vice president. “Our Mack Pinnacle models deliver industry-leading lifecycle value, as well as near-zero emissions. Jacobson told us they were proud to be servicing their customers in the U.S. with trucks that were built in the U.S.”

Barletta says Mack worked closely with Jacobson to design a complete ownership package that includes Mack Pedigree Uptime Protection service and parts support, financing through Mack Financial Services, technical training through the Mack Trucks Academy and more. “It’s the kind of total business solution we at Mack take great pride in providing,” he says. “It comes down to having the customer’s back.”

Housby Mack Inc. is the local Des Moines-area dealer supporting the Jacobson Companies order. “When Jacobson approached us about refreshing their fleet with fuel-efficient trucks, we jumped at the chance to demonstrate all of the great things going on at Mack today,” says Kelly Housby, president of Housby Mack. “We’ve done business with Jacobson Companies before, but nothing of this magnitude and reach. They see the value in what Mack has to offer, what it means today to have a Bulldog on the hood, and we intend to do everything we can to make sure that never changes.”
