Kenworth announced its T880 will be available in a 40-inch sleeper configuration beginning in March 2016 and is designed for straight truck and tractor vocational applications where drivers need a small sleeper. It features a 24-inch liftable bunk and 22.5 cubic feet of storage space to handle gear for occasional stays in the sleeper, plus storage shelves and a cell phone cubby.

“You get a lot of opportunity for user comfort in a small package,” said Preston Feight, Kenworth general manager and Paccar vice president. “I think we’ll see adaptation by people that just want that minimalist position where once and a while they’ll be stuck overnight somewhere but they don’t want the longer sleeper, they just need something to get an overnight rest.”

The interior also includes coat hooks specifically designed to hold hardhats as well as coats. Three optional windows available on the back of the sleeper provide better visibility for drivers operating in tight locations, plus two standard toolbox doors.

Customers can also mount a variety of components on the roof, including a sunvisor, LED marker lights, spot and strobe lights, air horns, plus Qualcomm, PeopleNet, and Kenworth TruckTech+ remote diagnostic antennas.

Beginning in 2016, the T880 will be available with the new Paccar MX-11 engine rated from 355 to 430-hp and from 1,250 to 1,550 lb.-ft. of torque.
