Kenworth Truck Co. has added the Bendix ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes from Bendix Spicer Foundation Brakes as part of the Kenworth Clean Power Technology Tour now traveling across the United States.

“Kenworth is pleased to partner with Bendix to demonstrate ABS-6 Advanced with ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes to customers at Kenworth dealers throughout the United States in conjunction with the Kenworth Clean Power Technology Tour,” says Jeff Sass, marketing planning manager for Kirkland, Wash.-based Kenworth.

In addition to the featured Kenworth Clean Power no-idle system, the Kenworth tour includes Kenworth GPS Navigation, high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps and the new Kenworth Driver Information Center, which gives drivers information on fuel economy, optimum engine speed and idling, and engine diagnostics.

According to Bendix, its ESP system is designed for stability performance to address both rollover and directional (slide, skid) stability situations, and recognizes and mitigates potential rollover and jackknife (under- and over-steering) situations in a variety of driving conditions, including dry, wet, snow and ice-covered surfaces. Bendix engineers state that the Bendix ESP system works by selectively applying tractor (both steer and drive axles) and trailer brakes, as well as by de-throttling the engine, to slow the vehicle and help the driver maintain control in potential stability loss conditions.

Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes feature a mono-block caliper design to facilitate a compact brake compared to other two-piece caliper models; this design offers sealing that facilitates added protection from environmental elements, and a larger rotor that absorbs more energy.

Bendix Spicer Foundation Brakes says extensive product testing has proven that Bendix air disc brakes virtually eliminate brake fade with no degradation of stopping power, enable a passenger car-like feel and, in controlled tests, permit straight, stable stops due to high brake efficiency and low hysteresis. Bendix brand air disc brakes are compatible in a variety of combinations with North American tractor and trailer air drum foundation brakes.

The five-month, national Kenworth Clean Power Technology Tour is visiting nearly 75 Kenworth dealers throughout the United States to demonstrate the new Kenworth Clean Power, which the company says may enhance fuel economy by as much as 8 percent for customers with current high idling times.
