The 6th annual “Rods, Hogs & Rigs Extravaganza,” http://www.rodshogsrigs.com/rhr/ included raffles, food, and entertainment along with a car show spanning multiple parking lots. All proceeds from the event supports Stansbury Elementary School’s Extended Learning Program, which provides students, who are behind, with extra assistance before and after school and during summer months. “It was a lot of work but for a great cause,” said event co-chair Ashley Moody. “The children of Stansbury will benefit from the generosity of everyone who attended. We were thrilled with the turn out. It was the biggest and best show yet.”
Special guests included Utah Governor Gary Herbert, who was greeted by student ambassadors from the school and their families. A special Governors Plate was awarded. Special awards made by the children at Stansbury Elementary were given in three categories: rods, hogs and rigs.
Kenworth Sales Company adopted Stansbury Elementary six years ago and has been involved in many aspects of the school.
“This event is the rare occasion when our industry can cross over and join the general public to promote a public issue that affects us all – education,” said Kyle Treadway, dealer principal of Kenworth Sales Company. “But the community support provided by Title 1 schools like Stansbury Elementary goes beyond classroom content. We are proud to say 100 percent of contributions made during these past six years have gone to support the many faceted programs Principal Ernie Broderick and his amazing team provide like extended learning, breakfast in the schools, ESL, adult education, and so on.”
The event is a cooperation of the employees of Kenworth Sales, the teachers and the community. Many local businesses have been contributing since the inception. Matt “Bubba” Richards co-chair of the event, said, “Being a Car Guy, hosting a show of this caliber is a thrill, but that’s only for one day. In the long term there is both honor and privilege in being a co-chair of this committee. The honor is being part of a team of people who spend months soliciting donations and planning an event that results in helping Stansbury Elementary become a better learning institution for the Children of the area. Being employed by a socially conscious company like Kenworth Sales Company, which encourages us and allows us to do what we do on company time is the privilege.”
The 7th annual Rods, Hogs and Rigs is already in the planning stage.
