Mack introduced its new TerraPro Cabover on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at this year’s World of Concrete show in Las Vegas. An evolution of the Mack MR, the TerraPro Cabover is designed for refuse and construction applications, including concrete pumping.

The standard engine is the 11-liter Mack MP7, in a range from 325 hp to 405 hp with torque ratings from 1,200 lb.-ft. to 1,560 lb.-ft. Also available is the 13-liter MP8, in a range from 415 hp to 485 hp with torque ratings from 1,540 lb.-ft. to 1,700 lb.-ft. Both engines feature single overhead cams, electronically controlled ultra-high-pressure fuel injection and one-piece steel pistons.

Mack is especially proud of the TerraPro Cabover’s comfortable interior, right down to its redesigned cup holders. “We’ve learned a lot from our long history of success with heavy-duty cabover trucks,” said Steve Ginter, Mack vocational products manager. “And one of these lessons is that while the vehicle has to be extremely durable, it also needs to be comfortable.”

Interior features include:

  • A steering column positioned for ample belly room;
  • Ergonomic seats;
  • An integrated armrest;
  • Easy-to-read gauges and easy-to-reach switches;
  • Accelerator and brake pedals that are suspended above the cab floor and mounted in-line to reduce driver effort and make the floor easier to clean;
  • An easy-to-reach parking brake;
  • Cab lighting controls that are reachable from the ground; and
  • A map light.
  • Noise and vibration on the job are minimized by the design of the TerraPro Cabover’s engine mounts, cab bushings, rubber isolators and electronically controlled fan, the company said.

    The low-profile electronic dash improves visibility while at the same time incorporating an instrument cluster with 25 indicator lights and an automatic transmission temperature gauge, the company said. Also included: an engine hour meter that features a wake-up display when the engine is off; and a battery backup that protects information stored in the engine control systems. Oil lines and most air lines are eliminated from the gauge cluster, in favor of more accurate and reliable electronic gauges, the company said.

    TerraPro Cabover buyers also can take advantage of the fourth generation of Mack’s Vehicle Management and Control System. V-MAC IV offers more than 100 programmable features, including road-speed tamper detection, integrated starter protection and a daytime running light override, plus DataMax software that captures vehicle trip histories, duty cycle information and scheduled maintenance intervals.

    The in-cab Control Link and back-of-cab Body Link II interfaces provide quick connections to any bodybuilder’s control unit, as well as pass-through harnesses and connectors from the controller to the body, the company said.

    The Mack camelback suspension is standard, but customers can opt for the Mack M-Ride 6-rod suspension, which allows up to 17-inch articulation for maneuverability at the jobsite.
